Deastro to Ghostly International
eMusic Selects Show Slated for September 11 at Le Poisson
Rouge
NEW YORK, August 26, 2008 -- eMusic the world’s largest
retailer of independent music and world’s second largest digital music
service after iTunes, today announced that three of the artists
handpicked for the eMusic Selects program this year have signed with
independent labels. Through its eMusic Selects boutique online music space,
eMusic has proven to be the only digital music service dedicated to
discovering and launching new talent. To date, the seven unsigned
artists have earned more than $40,000 through their participation in
the program.
“When we started eMusic Selects, our goal was to help young artists
gain deserved attention, both from eMusic's subscribers and the
greater independent music world,” said Yancey Strickler, eMusic's
Senior Editorial Director. “Obviously we are incredibly happy for
these artists, and look forward to certain continued success for all
of them.”
High Places was the first act to debut as an eMusic Selects artist in
February; Pitchfork gave their collection, A&R’d by eMusic
Selects, a glowing review, saying, “These songs-- they're intimate
enough to sleep in, rhythmic enough to dance to; lo-fi and simple, but
strange enough to get lost in.” The Brooklyn duo of Rob Barber
and Mary Pearson has now signed with Chicago-based indie label Thrill
Jockey, who recently released a physical version of the Selects title
03-07 – 09-07, and who will be releasing their self-titled
full-length debut album on September 23. The band begins a month-long
national tour on September 16, as well.
Brooklyn’s darkly psychedelic garage rockers Crystal Stilts hit eMusic
Selects in April, again garnering praise from Pitchfork and
Entertainment Weekly, among others. The label Woodsist recently
released a physical version of the eMusic Selects-curated Crystal
Stilts EP, and a full length will follow this October from indie-
pop label Slumberland.
And finally, Deastro – an amazing 22-year-old electronic-pop musician
from Michigan, and the best-selling eMusic Selects artists thus far –
was just announced as Ghostly International's latest signing. In the
coming months, Ghostly will be releasing Deastro's Keeper's album in
all digital-retail outlets (iTunes, Amazon, et al.). A new single is
in the works as well, slated for a November release. The single will
include a preview of Deastro's upcoming full-band Moondagger EP, which
itself will drop in early 2009. Ghostly also plans to re-release
Deastro's dizzyingly eclectic back catalogue – from the instrumental
concept Powered albums to the sky-high anthems of The Young Planets –
in the not-too-distant future.
