eMUSIC ADDS THOUSANDS OF TRACKS FROM TZADIK RECORDS

Leading Independent Download Service Makes Entire Tzadik Catalogue Available for Download Before Any Other Digital Music Service

eMusic Expands Discovery Features— Subscribers Can Now Perform Searches to Easily Find Free Tracks, eMusic Exclusives and Tracks Made Available in Advance of Their Official Release Date

NEW YORK, NY—December 1, 2005— eMusic, the world’s No. 2 digital music download service, selling more than three million tracks monthly, today announced the addition of the legendary John Zorn-owned Tzadik Records to its massive roster of labels. Thousands of Tzadik-released avant-garde jazz tracks will hit the eMusic site weeks ahead of any other digital music service, providing eMusic subscribers with exclusive digital access to recordings from groundbreaking experimental artists including: John Zorn, Fred Frith, Marc Ribot, Elliot Sharp, Buckethead, Ikue Mori, Jim O'Rourke and former Faith No More vocalist Mike Patton.

In conjunction with the exclusive digital debut of the Tzadik collection, eMusic is increasing the scope of its unparalleled search function to include three new channels through which subscribers can seek out and discover music. Three new icons will be introduced to subscribers through the Tzadik catalogue, beginning with the “eMUSIC-ONLY” icon, which will designate all tracks that are exclusive to eMusic. In addition, an “ADVANCE” icon will appear alongside all tracks that are available for download before their official release date, and a “FREE” icon will indicate those tracks that subscribers can download gratis.

Not only will these classifications allow for improved browsing—since users can apply them as search criteria and easily pull up pages that list all ADVANCE, eMUSIC-ONLY or FREE tracks and then refine them by other criteria—they will also provide labels with innovative ways to position and merchandise their content. Tracks marked with these new promotional designations will surface more easily and often on the site, as the icons differentiate and highlight titles from the back catalogue.

“eMusic is thrilled to be adding Tzadik Records to its expansive and incredibly diverse selection of independent labels,” said David Pakman, CEO of eMusic and a managing director of Dimensional Associates, the private equity arm of JDS Capital that owns eMusic, The Orchard and Dimensional Music Publishing. “With its dedication to providing a home for cutting-edge artists outside the mainstream, Tzadik makes for the perfect partner to launch these exciting and innovative discovery features that will allow labels to more effectively market the music that eMusic fans are keen on discovering.”
