  • We Say...

Australian singer-songwriter Aaron Thomas has the kind of unique, affecting voice that sets him apart from the coffeehouse folk-pop crowd. It's a quavering lilt, indebted to everyone from Elvis Costello to Edith Piaf — the high-register vibrato might be slightly off-putting at first, but chances are you will be won over by Thomas' singularity and sincerity. The music on Follow the Elephants is a gypsy-jazzier affair than you might expect, with some muted horns and waltz rhythms peppered throughout. Start with "Any One," a minor chord shuffle with Thomas' unique pipes featured front-and-center.
