Gabriel Kahane isn't your average singer/songwriter. The singer, pianist and composer gets theatre score commissions, works with likeminded, orchestral-leaning indie rock luminaries (Sufjan Stevens, Rufus Wainwright) and constantly straddles the line between pop music and high-art. This self-titled outing finds Kahane mining a lush cabaret-pop sound. Instrumentation is extremely varied — French horns, piano, guitar, banjo and more aid the soundtracking of a cluster of dramatic and moving songs.
